most of the time As mentioned I spent the weekend listening to Dr. Gabriel Cousens discuss the impact of our food choices on everything from diabetes to spiritual progression to food and resource shortages around the globe. He's a dedicated man, it's so motivating to spend time in the presence of someone on their true path in life, especially when they're 70 and appear to be 50... Some interesting stats and tips, I don't have the supporting research as I jotted them down while he spoke, but here is a link to all Dr. Cousens' books if you want more: - We need 7 to 8 hours of sleep, 6 doesn't cut it - Men who watch 19+ hours of TV a week have a 150% greater chance of getting diabetes - Tryptophan helps with menopausal hot flashes - Every acre of organic farmland filters 3,700lb of carbon dioxide from the air - Fish is more inflammatory than chicken or dairy - 25-40% raw, plant fat daily is essential to a balanced vegan diet - Eat chia and flax with coconut oil to double the conversion rate in the body - Omega3s are essential to heart, brain and eye maintenance Going to eat an avocado now!

Dr Cousens Tree of Life This weekend Upaya Naturals is hosting Dr Gabriel Cousens in Toronto. I'm so excited, I studied from his text Conscious Eating in Bali and toured his healing centre, The Tree of Life, in Patagonia, Arizona. But I haven't seen him in person, so I'm big time looking forward to this. The event is being held at the OISE U of T building on Bloor and St George, it runs Friday and Saturday night and most of Sunday. You can buy a pass for the weekend intensive or just pop by for one day. If you're going let me know! Looking forward to updating you all next week.

Photo Cred Lisa I was fortunate to have the opportunity to visit the Tree of Life in Patagonia, AZ this weekend. When you enter the world of raw food, the Tree is spoken of as a bit of a mystical place. The group of ladies from Pure Joy Academy took the three hour drive from Scottsdale to indulge in an incredible buffet of THE best raw, vegan, living foods. Most of which is grown on the Tree of Life property and all prepared on site. We were then treated to a lovely lesson on sprouting and juicing our own wheatgrass. And finally we were lead up to the labyrinth for a meditative walk about... which requires another post all to itself. The surrounding area is stunning! Just a short distance from the Mexican border, the hills are lush and green, scattered with agave plants and mesquite trees. Not at all what I was expecting of Arizona. Butterfies flutter about the clinic and the gardens are gorgeous and fragrant. The area is so green it actually casts a green hue on everything... which feels very appropriate. I must admit, while I knew I'd never been anywhere like this I quickly realized just how true that was, so much peace and beauty. The staff and guests were gracious and dedicated to holistic living and to know so many people have been healed in all aspects by Dr. Gabriel Cousens just furthers my belief that change is underway. If you're into films here is the trailer for Simply Raw, it all takes place at the Tree and is worth watching.
